What children practise
The separate plates invite children to create repeating colors and patterns. This practises careful matching, sequencing, and small controlled movements while providing natural opportunities to use words such as front, back, larger, and smaller.
A dinosaur fact to share
Stegosaurus lived during the Late Jurassic and ate plants. Its back plates were made of bone but did not form a closed suit of armor. Long spikes on the tail were probably used for defense. Fossils do not tell us the exact colors of the plates.

How can young children color all the plates?
Choose two or three colors and repeat them. Younger children can also treat every plate separately without following a pattern.
Were the back plates a suit of armor?
Not like the armor of Ankylosaurus. The plates rose from the back but did not cover the whole body in one protective layer.
